Solar power is the fastest growing renewable resource in the world, but there are still areas where it is not practical. A rugged, outdoor, inexpensive, and easy-to-build cart would make it possible to provide power in rural terrain. The solar panels directly charge on-board batteries to power outlets on the cart and provide shade for operators.

 

The cart can supply AC or DC, making it highly versatile. The adjustable angle of the panels allows manual tracking of the sun to ensure the panels are at optimal angles to achieve high efficiency. The rugged steel frame and wheels provide support and allow for mobility in most conditions or terrain.

 

This year the project team plans to utilize a Raspberry Pi and an Arduino to track data from the solar panel, such as efficiency. The team is also working to add to the cart additional storage area and a worktop to allow operators to work on various projects. Following completion, the cart could be used for any purpose requiring mobile power.
